Which Symptoms Do You Have?

Choose the symptom in your legs, read the related information and complete the pre-assessment form with a few short questions. This form does not provide a diagnosis; it collects preliminary information before an examination.

Venous valve insufficiency

How are varicose veins assessed?

The examination covers your symptoms and your legs; if needed, the veins and blood flow are examined with colour Doppler ultrasound. The doctor decides on a suitable approach based on this assessment.

  • Examination and review of your medical history
  • Colour Doppler ultrasound if needed
  • Planning suitable options together with the doctor

03Conditions

Information on vascular conditions

General information on symptoms, possible causes and diagnosis. Every case is assessed through an examination.

  • A person holding a leg with visible veins on the calf and ankle (illustrative image)

Leg veins that have become enlarged and twisted. They may cause heaviness, swelling and visible veins.

  • Illustrative image showing symmetrical tissue increase in the legs

A chronic condition, mostly affecting women, with symmetrical build-up of fatty tissue in the legs and sometimes the arms.

  • Illustrative image of a leg with ankle swelling

Swelling caused by lymph fluid collecting in the tissues, often starting on one side and possibly persistent.

04Treatments

Non-surgical varicose vein treatment and other methods

The method is chosen according to the examination and Doppler ultrasound findings, the structure of the vein and the person’s overall health.

Why non-surgical methods?

Treatment options without incisions, performed as outpatient procedures

In suitable patients, varicose veins can be treated with methods applied from inside the vein, such as laser, radiofrequency or foam sclerotherapy. The doctor decides which method suits you after an examination and colour Doppler ultrasound.

  • Access without incisions or stitches

The procedure is performed through a needle or a thin catheter inserted through the skin.

  • Local anaesthesia

Procedures are usually performed under local anaesthesia while the patient is awake.

  • Outpatient treatment

Procedures mostly do not require a hospital stay; the doctor sets the return to daily life individually.

05Patient guide

Frequently researched topics

The questions patients ask most often before an appointment, and the basics of the process.

Short answers

What happens during the examination?

Your symptoms and medical history are discussed and your legs are examined. If needed, the structure of the veins and the blood flow are assessed with a colour Doppler ultrasound.

Do all varicose veins need treatment?

No. Treatment decisions depend on symptoms and on examination and imaging findings. In some cases lifestyle advice and compression stockings with follow-up may be sufficient.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Bringing any previous test results, a list of the medicines you take and notes on how long your symptoms have lasted makes the assessment easier.
